Reason Behind Sanju Samson’s Failed Trade to DC Revealed: RR’s Late Demand Caused Rift

Sanju Samson IPL 2026 Trade: RR’s Late Demand Derails Delhi Capitals Deal

The IPL 2026 transfer window has been buzzing with major player movements, but none created as much intrigue as the developments surrounding Sanju Samson. The Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain was reportedly close to joining Delhi Capitals (DC) before the deal collapsed at the final stage — and now, the reason behind it has surfaced. So let’s have a look at Sanju Samson IPL 2026 trade.

Samson’s Fallout with RR and the Search for a New Home

Sanju Samson, who has led RR for several seasons, expressed his desire to leave after a disappointing IPL 2025 campaign. The 30-year-old wicketkeeper-batter, despite being one of the most consistent performers for the franchise, was reportedly unhappy with the team’s direction and management decisions.

While Samson’s move to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) now appears to be in advanced stages, it has emerged that Delhi Capitals were initially the frontrunners to sign him. According to reports, both franchises had agreed to a swap deal involving Samson and South African batter Tristan Stubbs.

Rizvi’s Name Turns the Tables

Just when both sides were ready to finalize the deal, RR made a last-minute demand that turned the negotiations sour. As per The Times of India, Rajasthan Royals owner Manoj Badale insisted that Delhi also include uncapped Indian batter Sameer Rizvi in the trade.

The Capitals’ management was caught off-guard by this sudden demand and immediately rejected the revised proposal. The talks fell apart shortly after, ending Samson’s potential homecoming to the franchise where he began his IPL career.

Why Delhi Capitals Refused to Let Go of Rizvi

Sameer Rizvi, bought by DC in the 2025 mega auction for ₹95 lakh, quickly became one of their brightest young talents. He impressed with 121 runs in five innings at an average of 40.83 and a strike rate above 150.

DC reportedly view Rizvi as a future cornerstone of their batting lineup, and losing him alongside Stubbs was considered too heavy a price. The franchise’s refusal to part ways with the youngster ultimately ended all talks with RR.

CSK Steps In for a Blockbuster Swap

After the Delhi deal collapsed, RR shifted focus to CSK, initiating one of the biggest trades in IPL history. As per reports, the Royals are now set to trade Sanju Samson to CSK in exchange for Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran — both key all-rounders in the Chennai setup.

If completed, this will mark one of the most high-profile multi-player swaps ever seen in the IPL, reshaping the balance of power for the 2026 season. Samson’s reunion with MS Dhoni’s CSK could be one of the most-watched storylines heading into the new season.
