Big Names Missing as Mumbai Opt for Fresh Faces
Notably, Ajinkya Rahane, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and young prospect Ayush Mhatre have been left out of the squad. Instead, the selectors have handed opportunities to a few lesser-known players as part of Mumbai’s squad refresh.
Chinmay Sutar, who previously represented India Emerging in four List A games in 2019, has earned a recall. Uncapped batter Ishan Mulchandani has also been included, while fast bowler Onkar Tarmale makes the cut following his recent IPL selection by Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Mix of Experience and Youth in the Squad
Alongside Rohit Sharma and Shardul Thakur, the team features reliable domestic performers such as Sarfaraz Khan, Musheer Khan, and Angkrish Raghuvanshi. Siddhesh Lad adds stability to the middle order, while wicketkeeping duties will be shared by Akash Anand and Hardik Tamore.
The spin department will be handled by the familiar duo of Shams Mulani and Tanush Kotian, providing balance to the bowling attack.
Mumbai’s Group and Match Schedule
Mumbai have been placed in Group C for the Vijay Hazare Trophy. They will kick off their campaign against Sikkim in Jaipur on December 24, followed by a clash against Uttarakhand two days later.
