Robin Uthappa Hopes For A Place In T20 World Cup Squad

Uthappa Played Last In July 2015

Robin Uthappa who lost his place in the Indian team since 2015 is hoping to make a comeback mainly in the T20 format and play in the T20 world cup to be held in October this year as he thinks he still has a World Cup in him.

The attacking batsman who made his international debut in 2006 soon attracted cricket fans’ attention due to his aggressive style of play.

The Karnataka batsman was a member of the 2007 India ODI World Cup team and part of the World Cup-winning squad of the inaugural T20 World Cup of 2007.

Uthappa played in just 8 ODIs and four T20 matches since 2011. His last match was in July 2015 against Zimbabwe.

The 34-year-old believes he still had the fire burning in him and wanted to compete and do well. He said, “Right now I want to be competitive. I still have that fire burning in me, I really want to compete and do well. I honestly believe I have a World Cup left in me, so I’m pursuing that, especially the shortest format,” according to a source.

But he also admits that he needed a bit of luck for that to happen, especially in India which has a vast pool of talent.

“The blessings of Lady Luck or God or whatever you call it is a massive factor. Especially in India, it becomes so much more evident. I don’t think it is as evident when you’re playing cricket outside of India,” Uthappa said.

“But in the subcontinent and India especially, with the amount of talent that we do have in our country, all of those aspects become evident.”

I Believe I Have An Outside Chance To Be A Part Of The World Cup: Uthappa

He said he still has hope and will not stop playing until his dreams stay alive. He added, ”Especially if you believe you have the ability and you know that there is an outside chance. So I still believe in that outside chance.

“I still believe that things can go my way and I probably can be a part of a World Cup-winning team and play an integral role in that as well. Those dreams are still alive and I think I’ll keep playing cricket till that is alive,”
