Notably, it was skipper Rohit Sharma who led from the front even with his batting and not to forget the crucial decision he took to win the games in the tournament. This T20 World Cup win made India lift an ICC trophy after 11 years and also become the second Indian captain to lift the T20 World Cup after 17 years.
Rohit Sharma’s role in guiding the Indian team until the very end has caught everyone’s attention. Even fans were happy for the skipper as it was his dream to win an ICC trophy as a captain. In the recent turn of events on Wednesday Rohit Sharma was named as the CEAT Men’s International Cricketer of the Year, where he stated a few key reasons that helped him and his team in the success of the T20 World Cup.
Three Pillars That Helped Rohit Sharma
A major point that caught the attention of many fans is the statement made by the skipper saying he got a lot of help from his so-called three pillars (Jay Shah, Rahul Dravid, and Ajit Agarkar). According to him, these three people helped a lot in terms of backing him, especially after the 19th November ODI World Cup final, where India lost to Australia in India.
Many believed that it would be the last time we would see Rohit captain the Indian team, however, Indian management officials like Jay Shah (BCCI Secretary), Ajit Agarkar (Cheif Selector), and Rahul Dravid (Former Head Coach) backed him, and gave the support to Rohit in order to bounce back and in return, he kept their trust as won the 2024 T20 WC.
“It was my dream to transform this team and not worry too much about the stats, the results, to make sure that we create that environment where people can go out there and play freely without thinking too much.” Rohit Said
“That is what was required. I got a lot of help from my three pillars, who are actually Mr. Jay Shah, Mr Rahul Dravid (and the) chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar. That was very critical for me to do what I did and not to forget the players, who came in at different points in time and helped the team to achieve what we achieved,” Rohit Said
Rohit Sharma on Champion Mindset
Rohit after receiving the best player award also stated the importance of staying positive and going after the goal set by the team. With the Champions Trophy and WTC final in 2025 the Hitman is focused on winning more titles and adding more records to his tally. He said that this is why he is a five-time IPL winner as once you get the taste of trophies you don’t want to stop and the same is with Rohit Sharma as he voes to hunt for more trophies in the future.
“There is a reason I won five IPL trophies. I’m not going to stop, because once you get the taste of winning games, winning Cups, you don’t want to stop and we’ll keep pushing as a team. We’ll keep striving for better things in the future,” Rohit Said
He even expressed how he felt after winning the T20 World Cup, “a feeling that cannot come every day. It was something that we were really hoping for. When we won the World Cup, it was important for all of us to enjoy the moment which we did pretty well, and thanks to our nation as well for celebrating with us,”

Once you achieve something you always look forward to achieving more. That is what I will be doing. I’m pretty sure my teammates will be thinking on the same line. What I’ve seen in the last two years in Indian cricket, there’s some real excitement, some real good cricket is being played.”
