PCB Mohsin Naqvi announcement of PSL 2026 prize money
PSL 2026 Set for a Record-Breaking Season
The 11th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) is scheduled to take place in 2026, and the excitement has already begun to build. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has revealed a major development, confirming a significantly increased prize pool for the upcoming season. The initiative is aimed at acknowledging franchises for their continued support and contribution toward the league’s growth. So let’s know about PCB Mohsin Naqvi announcement.
Major Increase in Prize Money Announced
Naqvi announced on social media platform X that the upcoming edition will see a considerable hike in financial rewards for the participating teams.
-
PSL 2026 Champions: $500,000 (approx. ₹4.48 crore)
-
Runners-up: $300,000
-
Best Franchise in Cricket Development: $200,000
The PCB chief expressed confidence that the increased prize money would further motivate franchises to continue strengthening Pakistan cricket, stating, “Let’s take Pakistan cricket to new heights.”
PSL Expands to Eight Teams
In another landmark development, the PCB has confirmed that the auction for two new franchises will take place on January 6, 2026. This marks the league’s first expansion since 2018, when the Multan Sultans joined the competition.
The expanded format is expected to fuel:
- Increased business opportunities
- Stronger competition
- Greater fan participation
- Broader national representation
Cities Under Consideration for New Franchises
Several major regions are being examined as potential home bases for the two new teams. Among the shortlisted cities are:
- Faisalabad
- Rawalpindi
- Hyderabad
- Sialkot
- Muzaffarabad
- Gilgit
Only bidders meeting the required technical benchmarks will progress to the final auction stage. Successful bidders will then be allowed to select their team name and home city from the approved list. The final shortlist is expected after December 5.
PCB Refutes Rumours Around Favourites
Reports had surfaced suggesting that Faisalabad and Gilgit were frontrunners in the franchise bidding process. However, the PCB dismissed these speculations, clarifying that final decisions will be made strictly based on official evaluation and auction results.
A New Era for PSL
With increased prize money, expanded participation, and more regional representation, PSL 2026 promises to be one of the most dynamic seasons in the league’s history. The developments reflect PCB’s renewed commitment to elevating Pakistan cricket and building a stronger, more competitive domestic ecosystem.
