Pakistan Women Team skip India tour for 2025 World Cup

Despite an impressive unbeaten run in the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup Qualifiers, the Pakistan women’s cricket team will not travel to India for the 2025 ICC Women’s ODI World Cup. The decision has been officially confirmed by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, citing the agreed-upon hybrid model.  Here is news on why Pakistan Women Team skip India tour for 2025 World Cup?

The World Cup is scheduled to take place from September 26 to November 2, 2025, with India as the official host. However, under the hybrid model approved earlier this year, matches involving India and Pakistan will be played at neutral venues if either nation is hosting the tournament.

“Everything will happen according to the agreement. India will decide where the match will happen because they are the hosts. Wherever they decide, our team will go and play there. But the Pakistan team won’t travel to India,” PCB Chairman told reporters.

This precedent was established during the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, hosted by Pakistan. India declined to travel and instead played their matches in Dubai. A similar arrangement will now apply to Pakistan’s fixtures during the Women’s World Cup.

Under the terms of the hybrid model, any ICC event hosted by either India or Pakistan until 2027 will see both nations play their respective matches at neutral venues. As India prepares to host the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup from September 29 to October 26, this arrangement will apply, with Australia entering the tournament as the defending champions.

The last time India toured Pakistan was in 2008, for the Asia Cup. Their most recent bilateral series took place in India during 2012-13. Since then, encounters between the two nations have been limited to ICC or multi-nation events.

Pakistan’s women’s team qualified for the 2025 World Cup after a dominant showing in the Qualifiers, which were hosted in Pakistan. They secured victories against Ireland, Scotland, West Indies, Thailand, and Bangladesh, finishing the tournament unbeaten. Alongside Bangladesh, they completed the list of eight qualified teams.
