What is Pakistan stand on Hybrid Model For ICC Champions Trophy 2025?

Ambani’s JioStar Pressures ICC for Quick Decision on Champions Trophy 2025 Schedule

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 faces massive uncertainty, with tensions rising between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), India, and the ICC over the tournament’s scheduling.

The PCB has rejected the idea of ahybrid modelfor the tournament, insisting that all matches, including the final, be held in Pakistan. However, the Government of India and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have refused to send their team to Pakistan due to security concerns and political tensions. So the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) requested ICC to host all the India’s matches in Dubai, a neutral location.

JioStar Pressures ICC on Champions Trophy 2025 Schedule

The situation has been further complicated by the involvement of JioStar, the broadcaster formed by the merger of Reliance and Star Sports. As the official broadcaster for the Champions Trophy, JioStar is pressuring the ICC for a decision on the schedule.

According to the terms of their contract, the ICC was supposed to conclude the schedule at least 90 days in advance, but this deadline has already been breached, creating tension within the broadcasting network.

The absence of an India vs Pakistan fixture would significantly affect the tournament’s profile and financial viability, with JioStar demanding that the two teams face off in the group stage. However, the hybrid model, where some matches are played outside Pakistan, may be the only way to benefit both India’s security concerns and the ICC’s broadcasting obligations.

ICC’s November 29 Meeting to Decide Future of 2025 Champions Trophy

The ICC meeting scheduled for November 29 in Dubai is crucial. It will determine whether the tournament will proceed as planned in Pakistan, adopt a hybrid format, or be moved to neutral venues. The outcome of these discussions will have far-reaching implications for the future of international cricket diplomacy, with financial and political factors at play.
