Sidra Amin Faces ICC Sanction After Outburst in India Women’s World Cup Match

Pakistan Sidra Amin Reprimanded for ICC Code Violation

Pakistan batter Sidra Amin was reprimanded for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the Women’s World Cup match against India on Sunday, October 5, at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Despite scoring a valiant 81 runs off 106 balls, Amin’s efforts were in vain as Pakistan lost by 88 runs, marking their second consecutive defeat in the tournament. So let’s take a look at Pakistan Sidra Amin Reprimanded for ICC Code Violation.

The Incident

The incident occurred in the 40th over of Pakistan’s innings after Amin was dismissed by Sneh Rana. Frustrated at narrowly missing out on a century, Amin forcefully struck her bat on the pitch. This action was deemed a Level 1 breach under Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which pertains to “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an International Match.”

As this was her first offence in 24 months, Amin received an official reprimand along with one demerit point added to her disciplinary record. Level 1 offences can carry fines of up to 50% of match fees and one or two demerit points. Amin admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Shandré Fritz of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees, avoiding a formal hearing.

The charges were leveled by on-field umpires Lauren Agenbag and Nimali Perera, third umpire Kerrin Klaaste, and fourth umpire Kim Cotton.

Match Summary

Pakistan captain Fatima Sana won the toss and chose to bowl first. India posted 247 in 50 overs, with Pakistan’s chase faltering as they were bowled out for 159 in 43 overs. Amin was the only batter to reach a half-century in the game.

Despite her top-scoring effort, Pakistan struggled for support from other batters, resulting in a heavy defeat. The win helped India secure the top spot in the league stage, a point ahead of defending champions Australia.

Pakistan, meanwhile, remains winless in the tournament after losses to Bangladesh and India. They face Australia next on October 8 in another high-stakes encounter.

ICC Code of Conduct Reminder

Level 1 breaches, like Amin’s, are considered minor but carry clear consequences. They aim to maintain the integrity of the sport and promote fair play on the field. ICC officials highlighted that Amin’s prompt acceptance of the sanction reflects professional conduct and adherence to the rules.

Conclusion

While Sidra Amin’s batting showed promise, her Code of Conduct breach underscores the importance of maintaining composure, even in high-pressure situations. Pakistan will aim to regroup and perform better in their upcoming match against Australia in the Women’s World Cup.
