PAK vs ENG 1st Test, Day 4 Update: Pakistan on verge of losing against England in series opener despite scoring 556 in 1st innings

PAK vs ENG 1st Test Day 4 Update for England tour of Pakistan, 2024

PAK vs ENG 1st Test Day 4 Update, Pakistan faced another forgettable day in the first test on Thursday, and they now are on the verge of losing another test at home soil this time against England in the ongoing three-match series.

Started on a positive note and recorded 556 in the first innings, Pakistan once again suffered a shock as their bowling line-up exposed again despite playing with a full-strength team.

Team England, who batted second, recorded the fourth-highest team score in Test cricket history on a ‘highway’ like pitch at Multan Cricket Stadium. Harry Brook (317) scored a triple and Joe Root (262) smashed a double to power England to a whopping 823 in the first innings.

Harry Brook recorded second fastest triple century in tests

Brook took 310 balls to complete his triple century and is now only behind India opener Virender Sehwag. who holds the record for the fastest triple-century in test cricket completed in 278 deliveries against South Africa.

Joe Root during his spectacular 262-run knock became the leading run scorer for England in test cricket surpassing Sir Alastair Cook 12472.

Seven of their eight bowlers leaked 100-plus runs in their spells, with two of them conceding over 6 runs per over in the red-ball format, which is the sign of England’s batters’ dominance.

England gained a lead of 267 runs, and Pakistan, in reply, lost their six wickets for 152 at stumps on day 4. Pakistan’s highly celebrated batter, Babar Azam, disappointed with the bat again, as after scoring 30 in first innings, he went out for only five in second.

Earlier, Pakistan posted 556 in their first innings following three century knocks from Abdullah Shafique (102), Shan Masood (151), Agha Salman (104*).

Interestingly, Pakistan also faced a similar kind of situation during their previous home test series played against Bangladesh in August-September 2024, where they declared their first innings of the 1st test at 448, Bangladesh in reply scored more than the hosts and later won the game and the series.

Pakistan have hosted Australia, England, New Zealand and Bangladesh in a combined 10 red-ball matches since 2022, but have not able to win any of the match, having lost six out of them while four were ended in draws.
