With England’s innings ending at 280, New Zealand tasted the sweet pace of England and ended the day with 86-5 at the Basin Reserve in Wellington, New Zealand. Here are the NZ vs ENG 2nd Test Day 1 Highlights.

Harry Brook to the Rescue

England’s day 1 started on the wrong foot against New Zealand, with their top order reduced to 43/4 within 13 overs. Pacers Nathan Smith (4-86), William O’Rourke (3-49), and Matt Henry (2-43) took advantage of the green conditions and ran riot against the English team. Although, Harry Brook had other plans, he played a magnificent innings of 123 off 115, his eighth Test century and second in consecutive innings.

Ollie Pope, who scored a strong 66, Brook added 174 runs for the fifth wicket. Their partnership took England to 124/4 at lunch. After a few meaningful overs, England was bowled out for a total of 280. Despite a depressing start, England was satisfied with Brook’s brilliance and their recovery from early downfall.

New Zealand’s innings were demolished further as Rachin Ravindra edged a ball onto his thigh pad, leading to Carse’s one-handed catch.
