How will Indian bowling line-up perform in the absence of Bumrah and Shami in test series against Bangladesh?

Team India is currently on a rare 42-day break from international action and will be next seen in test series against Bangladesh, starting September 19.

This series will mark a beginning of India’s upcoming test season, in which the Indian team play 10 test matches, two against Bangladesh, three versus New Zealand and five against Australia.

India is currently in top spot on the WTC 2023-25 standings, and the series against Bangladesh, will provide the side a further strength to their chances to play their third consecutive WTC final.

But as per some reports, India’s premier fast bowling duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami will miss the Bangladesh series.

This is mainly due to India’s hectic test schedule. With 3 home games in October-November against New Zealand, and 5-match test series against Australia in Australia in November 2024 to January 2025. The management can give more rest to their main pacers in Bangladesh series.

No Bumrah and Shami in test series against Bangladesh?

Bumrah was last seen in action during the T20 World winning campaign in June 2024. While Shami has not played any match since ICC ODI World Cup 2023 due to an ankle injury. He, however, is recovered now, but the selectors may not rush him into the team.

Indian bowling line-up will be highly dependent on Mohammed Siraj’s shoulders in the absence of Bumrah and Shami, as far as the fast-bowling department is concerned. But as Indian conditions are more helpful for spinners, the spin trio of Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel, will play a major role in the test series.

Arshdeep Singh might get a chance to feature in India’s test squad for the first time, and it will be a great oppourtunity for him to show his class in the red-ball format, thus increasing his chances of playing against New Zealand and Australia.
