Nic Maddinson Testicular Cancer Battle and Recovery Story
Australian cricketer Nic Maddinson has revealed that he has been quietly fighting testicular cancer, undergoing surgery and nine weeks of chemotherapy over the winter before making a gradual return to training. So let’s know about Nic Maddinson Testicular Cancer Battle.
The 33-year-old New South Wales batter, who has represented Australia in three Tests and six T20Is, noticed a lump earlier this year and initially thought it was nothing serious. However, medical scans in April confirmed a tumour, forcing him to step away from cricket immediately.
“I felt run down and thought it was just a virus,” Maddinson told Nine Newspapers. “During my post-season review, I mentioned to the team doctor that I’d felt a lump. Scans showed it was cancer, and I had surgery straight away. Seven weeks later, I found out it had spread to my abdominal lymph nodes and lungs — that was when it became really daunting.”
Tough Battle Off the Field
Maddinson began chemotherapy soon after surgery while his wife, Bianca, was pregnant with their second child. She had to leave her dentistry job to care for their toddler son as Nic underwent treatment.
“By the second or third week, I lost all my hair. I felt drained all the time,” he recalled. “I took steroids to manage side effects, but they kept me up at night. I’d be at the hospital for hours, come home exhausted, and feel guilty that I couldn’t help around the house.”
He kept his diagnosis private, confiding only in a few close friends, including Adam Zampa. After months of uncertainty, Maddinson completed his final chemotherapy session on July 14 and was given the all-clear in September.

Hope and a Cricketing Comeback
“Eight weeks after my last chemo round, I got the good news — the treatment had worked,” he said. “My recent tests were all clear, and now I can focus on getting back to playing cricket again.”
Maddinson has resumed training and hopes to play Sydney Premier Cricket and New South Wales Second XI matches soon, aiming for a possible Sheffield Shield comeback in November.
Although realistic about his Test prospects, Maddinson remains grateful for his recovery and the birth of his second son, Wilder.
“I just want to play cricket again and be healthy,” he said. “If one person reads my story and gets checked, it’s worth it. Don’t ignore the signs — getting tested early can make all the difference.”
