Amid a global crisis spreading the wrath of the coronavirus pandemic, the world is on lockdown, where people are spending their time alone. The lockdown has extended till May 3 in India, and for that reason, the much anticipated IPL 2020 is also in trouble. BCCI postponed it for an indefinite period.
Meanwhile, all sports activity has stopped, and cricketers have no choice but to spend their quarantine time on Twitter or Instagram. During the lockdown, several cricketers, including Yuzvendra Chahal, Rohit Sharma, Shreyas Iyer, and Shikhar Dhawan, hosted Instagram live sessions.
Recently, two of India’s key bowlers – Yuzvendra Chahal and Mohammed Shami – went live on Instagram and entertained fans with their candid chat. During the live chat, the two players answered different questions. During the live session, an interesting question was asked to choose between Captain Virat Kohli and his limited-overs deputy Rohit Sharma.
IPL 2020 has been postponed indefinitely due to coronavirus outbreak:
Mohammed Shami asked who among the two Indian leaders is his close friend. With no hesitation, Shami chose Virat Kohli’s name. The speedster made it clear that he decided to take on Kohli as he is the skipper of the Indian team. Shami picked Kohli because they often talk and joke, and his relationship with Kohli is good.
“I don’t communicate much with Rohit. I don’t know, but Rohit and I don’t have that bond. Even if we pass the test with Virat, we both talk about all sorts of things (about musical taste or joke). We interact very often over the phone. Therefore, I will go for Virat in this case, and I am choosing not because he is the captain of the team, but because we are perfectly bonded,” said Shami.
Responding to Shami’s answer, Chahal also agreed with his view and said that the bond with each player is different. The leg-spinner said it is difficult to get his attention as Rohit Sharma is not readily available on calls when he is in his house.
In the thirteenth edition of the Indian Premier League, all Indian players, including Shami, Chahal, Rohit, and Virat, will represent their respective franchises. However, due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the feasibility of the tournament appears to be very narrow, and the IPL expected to be pushed further by the end of 2020. Several reports have suggested that the IPL 2020 T20 could be scheduled ahead of the World Cup 2020.
