Mohammed Shami ready to return to competitive cricket with Ranji Trophy match

Mohammed Shami Comeback News

In a major development, India’s speedster Mohammed Shami is set to return on the cricket field to play competitive cricket after attaining complete fitness. The pacer suffered an ankle injury during the ODI World Cup 2023 and has been out of action for the past one year. Let us take a look on Mohammed Shami Comeback News.

However, after gaining full fitness, the star bowler is ready to take part in Ranji Trophy match. He will be seen playing in Bengal’s fifth round game starting November 13. With Bengal currently sitting in fifth spot on the points table, the inclusion of Shami in the team will boost their chances in the upcoming match.

Shami had surgery on his right foot in March this year and spent most of his time at Bengaluru’s National Cricket Academy (NCA) for rehabilitation.

Team India missed his services during recently concluded India vs New Zealand test series, which New Zealand won 3-0. While Shami was not selected for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy squad, as he was yet to be declared completely fit when the squad was announced.

His comeback to competitive cricket with participation in Ranji Trophy is a major step in his preparation for international cricket.

Will Shami play in Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2025?

Shami was the leading wicket taker in ODI World Cup last year with 24 wickets and was one of primary reasons behind India’s winning performance in Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2018-19 with 16 scalps in 4 games.

As his playing style matches Australia conditions, it is a no-brainer that he will be added in India’s Test squad for BGT as a reserve after a successful Ranji Trophy match against Madhya Pradesh. Mukesh Kumar, Khaleel Ahmed and Navdeep Saini are the current reserves for the BGT.

If in any scenario Shami misses the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, his international comeback will be delayed until January 2025, when England visits India for the white-ball series before the Champions Trophy 2025.
