Australia vs Afghanistan Match 39 Highlights

AUS vs AFG Match Highlights: After losing their first two games to India and South Africa, Australia made a pretty amazing comeback by winning back-to-back games. But today they made it 6 wins in a row.

Australia beat a pretty good Afghanistan team who were completely clueless. It was a rollercoaster game with the match swinging in both teams’ favor.

Sometimes it was Afghanistan batsmen who were in control and sometimes it was Australia bowlers who had the control. But in the end, it was Australia who came out on top and won the match by 3 wickets.

AUS vs AFG: Afghanistan fighting hard from the start of the Match

Earlier on after winning the toss Afghanistan won the toss and decided to bat first. Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran came on to start the innings for Afghanistan and they started well before Hazlewood took off Gurbaz to get the first breakthrough for Australia. Afghanistan was down for one /wicket and the score was 38/1.

Mainly it was Ibrahim Zadran who was the star of the match as he carried his team’s victory and semifinal hopes on his shoulders. He scored a brilliant century. He formed an amazing partnership with Rahmat Shah where they both took Afghanistan’s total to 121/2.

AUS vs AFG: Alone Warrior ‘Zadran’ Fighting for Afghanistan’s Semi-final Hopes

If it was not for Ibrahim Zadran then Afghanistan would have surely crumbled down before Aussie bowlers but it was this man who fought until the very end and gave everything to help Afghanistan reach a reasonable total of 291/5 at the end of 50 overs.

Ibrahim Zadran finished his innings with three sixes and eight fours. He was unbeaten as he scored 129 runs off 143 balls. He was the star man for Afghanistan as they completely outclassed Australia in an interesting match of the World Cup 2023.

AUS vs AFG: Australian Bowlers were in complete danger at one point of the Innings

It was going tough for Australia as Afghanistan was in complete control at one point., Australia tried and used their 7 bowling options in order to stop the run flow of Afghan batters.

Josh Hazlewood was the only economical bowler, who finished his bowling spell with 4.30 in his 9 overs. He was also the highest wicket-taker as he picked up two wickets. While other bowlers were expensive bowlers like Mitchell Starc, Glenn Maxwell, and Adam Zampa all three of them picked up a wicket each.

Rashid Khan’s 18-ball 35-run cameo also helped Afghanistan at the end stage. Even though wickets kept falling at one end it was Ibrahim Zadran who ran the show with his batting powers. His knock helped Afghanistan post a good defendable total of 291/5 in 50 overs.

AUS vs AFG: Australia Struggled yet again and time they failed big time against Afghanistan

Australia completely lost the game at the start of the second innings as wickets kept falling but like the Afghanistan team, the Australian team had Maxwell who was the star of the chase.

When all seemed lost for Australia at 91/7, one man decided it was time to shine. Maxwell even though had luck in his way, when he was dropped by Mujeeb ur Rahman when Maxwell was 33 but from then on Glenn Maxwell single-handedly carried the innings.

Turning the game on its head with a magical batting display. Maxwell took on the pressure and took charge of the opponents as he was blissfully scoring runs. He scored a brilliant century in 76 balls.

Maxwell achieved a remarkable century in just 76 balls, an achievement that can only be described as legendary. He not only reached a century but also achieved a remarkable double century. His incredible performance of 201* from 128 balls included a flurry of 10 enormous sixes and 21 boundaries.

Currently, Maxwell is the Australian with the most runs in One-Day International cricket. What could be more amazing? He fought through excruciating pain and cramping, but he wouldn’t give up. He becomes first Australian to score an ODI Double century.

Maxwell played his shots on his lone leg, gave up singles, and persisted in hitting sixes and boundaries with unwavering tenacity.

AUS vs AFG: Afghanistan roaring at the Wankhede Stadium

After the performance of Zardan with the bat it was time for Afghan bowler Naveen-ul-Haq to provide the much-needed early wickets. Naveen-ul-Haq picked up two quick wickets of Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh early in the innings as Australia where down to 43/2 before the end of the 6th over.

Then it was Azmatullah Omarzai who broke the backbone of Australia as he provided two quick wickets. An amazing direct hit from Rahmat took out Marnus Labuschagne and that made things difficult for Australia. Moreover, Rashid Khan also joined the party as he also picked up two wickets. Australia were down to 91/7 in 18.3 overs.

AUS vs AFG: What’s Next for these (AUS & AFG) two teams?

They have proved that they are no underdogs in this competition after defeating big fish teams like England, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Australia, and the Netherlands, and their future looks bright as there is still a lot on hold for Afghanistan cricket in the near future. Now their qualification chances are very low and technically very difficult.

While Australia has qualified for the Semi-finals after this close content, huge thanks to Maxwell as they are now the third team to qualify for the Semifinals.
