Mahmudullah Announces His Retirement from Test cricket

Bangladesh T20I skipper Mahmudullah has officially announced his retirement from Test cricket. Bangladesh Cricket Board has confirmed the news about his announcement on 24th November.

Mahmudullah has recently made a comeback to the Test format against Zimbabwe earlier this year, had already informed his teammates that he won’t be extending his career in the longest format. In that series, he has smashed his career-best score of 150* against Zimbabwe and played a major role in Bangladesh’s 220-run win.

BCB was shocked after hearing his announcement, however, Mahmudullah has given clarity that he wants to continue featuring in ODIs and T20Is

It has been an absolute honor and privilege to play Test cricket for Bangladesh – Mahmudullah

In an interview, he said – “Leaving a format of which I have been a part of for such a long time is not easy. I had always thought of going on a high and I believe this is the right time to end my Test career. I want to extend my gratitude to the BCB President for supporting me when I returned to the Test team. I thank my teammates and the support staff for always encouraging me and believing in my ability. It has been an absolute honor and privilege to play Test cricket for Bangladesh and I will cherish the many memories

He has also added – “Although I am retiring from Tests, I will still be playing ODIs and T20 internationals and really looking forward to continue giving my best for my country in white-ball cricket.”

Mahmudullah has made his Test debut back in 2009 against West Indies and now he is ending his career in the longest format with almost 3000 runs under his belt. He also has a 5-wicket haul in Test cricket and finishes his bowling career with 43 wickets.

It is unfortunate he is also unavailable for the upcoming Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) which is set to start at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.
