ICC Starts Support program for Displaced Afghan Women Cricketers

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has taken a significant step to support displaced Afghan women cricketers by forming a dedicated task force in collaboration with BCCI, ECB, and Cricket Australia. This initiative includes a special fund aimed at providing direct financial assistance, ensuring the players can continue their cricketing journey despite various issues.

A high-performance programme will also be established, offering advanced coaching, world-class facilities, and tailored mentorship to help refine their skills. ICC Chair Jay Shah emphasized the organization’s commitment to inclusivity and global cricket development, stating this move is not only about preserving careers but also about showcasing cricket’s power to unite and inspire. This initiative is seen as a major push toward strengthening cricket’s global footprint while supporting athletes affected by political and social turmoil.

Young South African Talent Get called up for Tri-Series

Cricket South Africa has announced a dynamic squad for the upcoming women’s ODI tri-series in Sri Lanka, featuring hosts Sri Lanka and India. Excitingly, three players Karabo Meso, Seshnie Naidu, and Miané Smit have earned their first senior national call-ups, having impressed in previous youth tournaments. The return of Nondumiso Shangase also adds depth and experience to the side. 

These changes come as replacements for Ayanda Hlubi, Mieke de Ridder, and Lara Goodall. Veteran Marizanne Kapp will sit out due to her ongoing conditioning block. Head coach Mandla Mashimbyi expressed his confidence in the new squad, stressing the importance of giving young players valuable international exposure. The series kicks off on April 27 at Colombo’s R. Premadasa Stadium.
