Keshav Maharaj Appointed as Pretoria Capitals Captain for SA20 2026

Keshav Maharaj Pretoria Capitals captain for SA20 2026

Pretoria Capitals have officially named Keshav Maharaj as their new captain for the upcoming SA20 season, the franchise confirmed on Friday (December 12). The experienced South African spinner replaces Rilee Rossouw, who was released before the auction and later signed by Jo’burg Super Kings for R500,000. Maharaj, meanwhile, was secured by the Capitals for R1.7 million.

Maharaj Brings Leadership and Experience

The Capitals highlighted Maharaj’s extensive leadership background in their announcement.
The franchise stated that his international experience, calm leadership style, and tactical understanding make him the ideal choice to guide the team.

Maharaj has previously captained South Africa in white-ball formats and also led Durban Super Giants in SA20. With 27 wickets in 33 SA20 matches, he is currently the second-highest wicket-taking spinner in the league’s history.

Strong Words from the Franchise

In their official statement, Pretoria Capitals said:

“Maharaj brings a wealth of international pedigree, along with a proven track record of guiding teams with composure, clarity, and intent. His presence strengthens the balance and direction of the Pretoria Capitals squad heading into the new season.”

Major Support Staff Overhaul

Ahead of the season, Pretoria Capitals also made significant changes to their coaching staff:

  • Sourav Ganguly replaces Jonathan Trott as head coach

  • Shaun Pollock joins as assistant coach

These changes signal the franchise’s intent to rebuild and aim for a stronger campaign in 2026.
