Root has scored two double centuries, four centuries which includes three in successive Tests against India During the Home series. Currently, Root’s tally is the 3rd highest total on record in a calendar year.
Root has expressed his joy and said – “I am incredibly proud to receive this award,” said the 31-year-old, only the second Englishman to win the accolade after Alastair Cook in 2011. I am very humbled to be in the same breath as a number of wonderful players around the world and it means a huge amount. If there was one hundred that really sticks out it would probably be at Chennai against India, the first Test match of that series (he scored 218). With it being my 100th game it is something that will live long in the memory.”
Recently England has recently lost the Ashes series by 4-0 by the Hosts Australia – Even England skipper Root has failed to score a century in this series. This is that one series where the English team has to learn a lot and take some positive feedback from it.
Other nominees for this award are New Zealand bowler Kyle Jamieson, Sri Lanka opener Dimuth Karunaratne and India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.
ICC women’s cricketer of the year award has been handed over to Smriti Mandhana – For scoring 855 runs in her 22 internationals with an average of 38.86.
