Ravi Shastri has already expressed his desire to stand down as Team India’s head coach after the next T20 World Cup in 2021. In addition to Shastri, bowling coach Bharat Arun and fielding coach R Sridhar have decided to follow in his footsteps. The BCCI is presently on the lookout for qualified individuals in this regard, It was previously reported that the BCCI had asked Anil Kumble, VVS Laxman, and Mahela Jayawardene for the key job once Shastri stepped down. Several stories surfaced about how the former Sri Lankan captain declined to coach the Indian side, claiming that he was comfortable with the Mumbai Indians and the Sri Lankan U19 team.
However, Jayawardene has denied the rumors and stated that the BCCI has not approached him for the coaching position. On his official Twitter, he addressed the issue.
Don’t fall into the gossip section: Jayawardene Tweet
“Was I or did I get interviewed by the Indian Express?? Why @ThePapareSports using my picture for a quote… don’t fall into the gossip section,” Jayawardene wrote.

While in control of the MI franchise in the IPL since 2017, Jayawardene has a fantastic track record as a coach. MI also won 2 IPL trophies throughout his spell. In the opening season of the Hundred, he was the coach of the Southern Brave, who won the title by defeating Birmingham Phoenix in the final.
If rumours are to be considered, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly is interested in bringing Anil Kumble back to Team India as a coach. From 2016 to 2017, the former leg-spinner was with the side for over a year before resigning related to a poor relationship with Indian captain Virat Kohli.
Sachin Tendulkar, Ganguly, and Rahul Dravid were the ones who recommended Kumble for the coaching position in 2016.
Ganguly is once again eager to have Kumble to join. Laxman’s identity is also surfacing. As a trainer for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), the former India batter has some expertise in the coaching field.
