IPL Retention Right to Match and Salary Cap Update, The much anticipated IPL 2025 Mega Auction is just a few months away from kicking off, where most of the teams will be revamped in order to have fair competition among the teams. Currently, the IPL management has to take a few key decisions before setting the rules for the upcoming auction. The mega auction for the 2025 IPL will most probably be held in the month of December when teams will be up for a big change.

As per the latest updates BCCI has invited all the team owners and have a meeting to discuss the possible changes for the upcoming mega auction. In this meeting, the officials will discuss the player retention policy and the feasibility of the Right to Match. Earlier it was said that each team could retain 3-4 players, while now the reports suggest there could be a possibility of 5 or 6 players who can be retained.

The discussion topics for this July 31 meeting will include the potential extension of the Impact Player rule for one more season, as well as the adjustment of a wage cap. However, the main topics of discussion will center on player retention and the Right to Match.

The Impact Player rule caused disappointment for a number of players last season, including Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. However, it is unlikely that the rule will be changed in the IPL because many parties, including the broadcasters and the franchises, think it has only made the competition more competitive and intense.

Roadmap for IPL 2025 Mega Auction Salary Cap Update

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is considering raising the players’ salary cap to INR 130-140 crore for the 2025 season, up from INR 90 crore in the 2022 mega auction. This potential increase follows demands from several franchises to the BCCI and IPL CEO Hemang Amin.
