Delhi Capitals Get a New Vice-Captain
Faf du Plessis will be the new deputy to Axar Patel at Delhi Capitals for the IPL 2025 season. After being released by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the end of IPL 2024, du Plessis was acquired by DC for his base price of INR 2 crore. The former South African captain, who has been a regular in the IPL since 2012, brings various experiences to DC’s squad.
Having played for Chennai Super Kings, Rising Pune Supergiants, and RCB, he was also captain of RCB for three seasons, leading them to playoffs in 2022 and 2024. Throughout his IPL career, du Plessis has scored 4571 runs from 145 matches, maintaining an impressive strike rate of 136.37. With DC undergoing a complete overhaul in their management and leadership structure, du Plessis’ inclusion aims to add leadership strength and stability to their squad. The team will be hoping his experience helps them achieve their maiden IPL title.
Chetan Sakariya KKR’s Replacement for Umran Malik
Kolkata Knight Riders have signed Chetan Sakariya as their replacement for the injured Umran Malik for IPL 2025. Malik, who hasn’t played since IPL 2024, has been struggling with injuries, including a hip fracture and dengue.
He made a strong start in 2021 with Sunrisers Hyderabad but has faced setbacks since. Sakariya, returning from injury, last played in February 2024 during the Ranji Trophy. While Malik has 11 wickets in 8 T20Is, Sakariya has one wicket in two T20Is. Sakariya will fill in for KKR’s pace problem, as KKR defends their 2024 IPL title.
