According to a few reports, BCCI has locked the dates for IPL 2022 and the tournament is likely to start from 2nd April at Chennai. The BCCI secretary Mr. Jay Shah has recently hinted about IPL 2022 taking place in India and said – “I know you all are waiting to see the CSK play at Chepauk. Well, the moment is not very far. The 15th season of the IPL will take place in India and it will be more exciting than ever with two new teams joining. We have a mega auction coming up, so it will be interesting to see what the new combinations look like,”

And the Mega Auction is all set to take place in the 2nd week of December in Chennai. Due to the addition of 2 new teams – We can see a lot of changes in the retention policies and rules. And as far as player retention is concerned, each franchise can retain up to 4 players and the overseas players cannot exceed 2.

This leaves the franchises with multiple combinations like 3+1 or 2+2 (Indian players + Foreign Players) and at the end of the day, their respective management has to decide which player to keep and release ahead of the Mega Auction. November 30th is the last date of player retention and each franchise has to submit the list of retained players to the IPL Governing Council on the final day of November.
