Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 is now the centre of attraction as the BCCI has reportedly locked the tournament start date for the upcoming edition. And the good news for all the Indian fans is IPL 2022 is likely to be played in India. Here is IPL 2022 Start Date And Venue
IPL 2020 and 2021 editions were played in the United Arab Emirates, due to the Covid situation in India. And the upcoming edition is all set to witness 10 teams and fans can witness teams battling for the prestigious IPL trophy. The newly added 2 IPL franchises are Ahmedabad and Lucknow
IPL 2022 Start Date And Venue, Tournament Likely To Commence In Chennai
According to a few reports, BCCI has locked the dates for IPL 2022 and the tournament is likely to start from 2nd April at Chennai. Since the upcoming edition has 10 teams the number of league games has been increased to 74 matches and the expected date for the big final of the tournament could be in the first week of June.
The BCCI secretary Mr. Jay Shah has recently hinted about IPL 2022 taking place in India and said – “I know you all are waiting to see the CSK play at Chepauk. Well, the moment is not very far. The 15th season of the IPL will take place in India and it will be more exciting than ever with two new teams joining. We have a mega auction coming up, so it will be interesting to see what the new combinations look like,”
And the Mega Auction is all set to take place in the 2nd week of December in Chennai. Due to the addition of 2 new teams – We can see a lot of changes in the retention policies and rules. And as far as player retention is concerned, each franchise can retain up to 4 players and the overseas players cannot exceed 2.
This leaves the franchises with multiple combinations like 3+1 or 2+2 (Indian players + Foreign Players) and at the end of the day, their respective management has to decide which player to keep and release ahead of the Mega Auction. November 30th is the last date of player retention and each franchise has to submit the list of retained players to the IPL Governing Council on the final day of November.
