Where Is BCCI Planning To Conduct IPL 2022?
Currently, India is witnessing a rise in COVID-19 cases on a daily basis and it is expected that in the coming days it will be at its peak, and clearly, BCCI is not happy after hearing this.
One of the main reasons for BCCI to consider South Africa is back in 2009 they have conducted the tournament there due to elections and it happened very smoothly out there. And the reason behind Sri Lanka was earlier for IPL 2021 – the Lankan government was very eager and happy to conduct the 2nd phase of IPL in their nation.
So, according to the reports the first priority is South Africa and Sri Lanka stands as a Plan B – BCCI officials are looking at all the possibilities right from – Hotels, Logistics, Venues, etc.
One of the senior BCCI officials said – “We can’t be dependent on UAE all the time so we decided to explore more options, South Africa’s time difference also works out well for the players,”
He has also added – “The place where the team was staying for the second Test is spread over several acres. There were walking tracks and even a pond on the property and that has made things easier for the players who for the last couple of years or so have been confined to their rooms on several overseas tours,”
Even BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla has recently stated – “We will try to ensure that the Indian Premier League happens and in India. But we will see into this matter again in March, that how is Covid situation then.”
Currently, the Indian cricketing board is trying its best to ensure that IPL takes place in India – But if Covid cases continue to rise up on a daily basis, they will have to move the cash-rich tournament to the alternatives.
