The 13th edition of IPL is set to be played in UAE:
The Indian Premier League 2020 is likely to be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The 13th edition of IPL was previously scheduled to be held between 29th March to 17th May but the BCCI had to suspend this cash-rich tournament for an indefinite period because of the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic.
However, the BCCI has made it clear that conducting this year’s Indian Premier League is their topmost priority. Previously, Sourav Ganguly, the BCCI president said that in case, ipl doesn’t take place because of the Coronavirus pandemic, the Board would lose nearly Rs. 4000 crore.
IPL is likely to take place in UAE:
Earlier this week, all the franchises involved in Indian Premier league met and clarified that they had no problems if the IPL is going overseas. According to the report, BCCI is looking at a September-October window to conduct IPL. Previously, Sourav Ganguly said that hosting IPL in India is the top-most priority, but if the situation doesn’t improve, they don’t hesitate to move outside India.
It is not a new thing for BCCI. In the year 2009, a part of the tournament was held in UAE, and in the year 2014, the whole tournament was held in South Africa because of the general election.
The cancellation of this year’s T20 World Cup brightens the chances of holding IPL this year in September-October. The Asia Cup, which was scheduled to be held in September, has also postponed. Now all are concentrating on the decision of International Cricket Council (ICC) on the decision of this year’s T20 World Cup.
According to the coronavirus protocols, all the matches will be held in the UAE without any spectators. A team owner said “That is not an issue. IPL is more built for TV, and the receipts on the gate will not be as much even if the audiences come in.”
