Harmanpreet Kaur to lead India in ODI series against New Zealand despite T20 World Cup early exit

India squad for ODI series vs New Zealand

BCCI has announced the 16-member squad for the home ODI series against New Zealand. Harmanpreet Kaur will continue to lead Indian women’s cricket team, while Smriti Mandhana also retained as vice-captain. Let us look at details on India squad for ODI series vs New Zealand.

There were some rumors spreading that Harmanpreet Kaur may face the heat of another world cup failure after Indian team failed to make it to the semifinals after losing two of their four group stage game. Kaur, however, scored the most runs for the Indian side, including two fifties.

The selection committee has showed faith in Harmanpreet’s ability and decided to keep her as Indian captain for the important home series.

India played their first T20 World Cup game against New Zealand, in which they faced a 58-run loss. In this series, the Indian side led by Harmanpreet Kaur will try to payback.

There are a few new players added to the squad – Priya Mishra, Sayali Satgare, Saima Thakor and Tejal Hasabnis.

India’s regular wicketkeeper batter for quite a time, Richa Ghosh will miss the series due to her 12th standard board exams.

Asha Sobhana also missed out due to injury, while Pooja Vastrakar has been rested.

The pace attack once again will be led by experienced Renuka Singh Thakur and Arundhati Reddy.
