The former Australian cricketer Ian Chappell said Steve Smith and David Warner were going to play an important role late this year during India’s Down Under tour. Virat Kohli became the first Indian captain to achieve a test series victory on the Australian soil in 2018-19. In Adelaide and Melbourne, the players lost the Perth Test but prevailed 2-1 to write history.
The men of Kohli will try to replicate it, but the task might not be easy. Last time in the Aussie line-up around Warner and Smith, which was somewhat weakened. After the ball-tampering incident in Newlands of South Africa, the pair was banned for one year.
Australia’s batting last time wasn’t so good: Ian Chappell
The loopholes in Australia’s batting were largely revealed without the stalwarts. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami regularly made inroads. Chappell knows the strength of this sequence and believes that India would come out firing on all cylinders.
“I look forward to it certainly (Series Australia-India). It’s going to be an exciting one. The last time they tour to Australia, India is going to come with hope, “said Chappell on the Sony Ten Pit Stop.
“India wasn’t so well last time in batting here. India will win if it can hold Warner and Smith out cheaply. If Warner and Smith are not getting cheap, Australia will win, “added the veteran.
Currently, Smith is the Test Batsman number one. He has recently fought for the top spot along with Kohli. Kohli was the helm while Smith was in the suspension. Smith, however, returned to Ashes in 2019. Warner did not have the biggest return at Ashes, on the other hand.
But in Adelaide, at the end of three centuries, he succeeded in winning form against Pakistan. Both batters have encountered significant success in the face of the Indian bowling attack. In their earlier series, Steve and Warner also had centuries against India, although it was the ODI format.
