Invited to bat, South Africa women were looking well in the game during the first powerplay of the game. The Proteas took the benefit of that as they got the wicket of Shafali Verma for 20.

Dayalan Hemalatha looked under pressure during her 24-run knock off 41.

South Africa team seemed relaxed after taking Hemalatha’s wicket, but they failed to recognize the looming threat; as soon as Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur joined vice-captain Smriti Mandhana in the middle, they gradually snatched the game away from the touring team.

Both added 171 runs for the third wicket and took India to 271 in 45.4 before Mandhana left the crease after scoring 136.

The southpaw with her century knock became the first Indian player to hit back-to-back hundreds in Women’s ODI cricket. And equaled the record with former Indian skipper Mithali Raj, for hitting most centuries in WODIs, that is 7.

India captain then took the center stage and went on to smash her hundred. While Richa Ghosh also played her part well with 13-ball 25 to guide India post 325 for 3 in 50 overs.

Both did a 184-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Kapp was the aggressor and scored a ton quickly to keep her side in check.

However, Kapp’s departure during the final over’s thriller left South Africa in extreme pressure.

Walvaardt tried her best to drive her side home, but her 135* went in vain as Proteas failed to win the game by 4 runs.
