The spin-friendly surface at Pune shocked Indian batters on the second day, as the hosts were bowled out for only 156 in their first innings on Friday.  Let’s look at IND vs NZ 2nd Test Day 2 Highlights.

Started the day at 16 for 1 and 243 runs behind the visitors, India batters were only able to add 140 more runs and handed New Zealand a 103-run lead.  

The senior batters such as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were dismissed cheaply, while the others failed to convert their starts to big knocks. Ravindra Jadeja scored the most runs for India with the bat with 38.

New Zealand, in reply, played – overs before stumps. Despite losing the wickets of Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra early in the second innings, the kiwis were at 198 for 5 at stumps on day 2.  

Captain Tom Latham led the charge from front and played a knock of 86. Tom Blundell remained unbeaten at 30 and Glenn Phillips at nine*.  

Two Indian bowlers who shared all 10 wickets in first innings, again remained only to provide breakthroughs for India in second. After collecting seven scalps in the first innings, Washington Sundar got four on day 2, while Ashwin took one.  

The first session of the third day will be crucial for both the sides as the team who dominates the first session will gain some momentum in the second test.

New Zealand spinners dominance on day 2 in Pune  

Mitchell Santner, who was not part of New Zealand playing 11 in the Bengaluru test, got the chance to play in the second test of the series owing to spin-friendly conditions at Pune.  

The left-arm spinner proved the think tanks decision’s right by claiming his first-ever seven-wicket haul in test cricket.  

Apart from him, left-arm spinner Ajaz Patel bagged two for the kiwis, while Tim Southee remained the only pacer to take a wicket among total 24 scalps in first two days of the match.  

Earlier, New Zealand won the first test of the three-match series after defeating India by 8 wickets in Bengaluru.
