IND vs NZ 2nd Test, Day 1 Highlights: ‘The Spinner Show’ in Pune put India in driver’s seat

IND vs NZ 2nd Test Day 1 Highlights for New Zealand tour of India 2024

It was a spinner’s show at Pune’s Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium on the opening day of the second test between India and New Zealand, as visitors all 10 wickets were picked by spinners only. So let’s take a look at IND vs NZ 2nd Test Day 1 Highlights.

Seasoned Ravi Ashwin was the first to claim wickets for India in the game. He dismissed the first three batters. Washington Sundar then joined the party and removed the next seven to make his comeback game a memorable one.

Devon Conway (76), and Rachin Ravindra (65) once again looked solid against spinners, but as soon as they walked back, none of the other batters showed some signs to stay for long against the two right-arm Indian spinners, as New Zealand posted 259 in their first innings.

India, in reply, ended the day at 16 for one. Experienced Tim Southee once again shocked Rohit Sharma with his perfect length delivery before stumps on day 1.

Washington Sundar’s 7-wicket haul comeback

After losing the first match of the series, the Indian selectors decided to add Washington Sundar’s in India’s second and third tests squads, considering the spin-friendly surfaces in both Pune and Mumbai.

The trick worked despite Washington playing his first test after a long break of three years. Sundar took a seven-wicket haul in the first innings in what was only his fifth international test.
