India Dominates, But New Zealand Holds Firm As Day 4 Ends in Bengaluru

IND vs NZ 1st Test Day 4 Updates

IND vs NZ 1st Test Day 4 Updates: The 1st Test between India and New Zealand at Bengaluru has reached a thrilling point as Day 4 concluded with New Zealand still in control despite India’s resurgence in their second innings. Although rain played spoilsport towards the end of the day, forcing early stumps as bad light followed by heavy showers disrupted play. Their efforts ensured India set a competitive target for New Zealand, despite their first-innings failure.

After being bowled out for a meager 46 runs in the first innings, India displayed resilience in their second outing. Sarfaraz Khan played a sensational knock, scoring a well-compiled 150, his innings were characterized by patience, grit, and smart shot selection.

His partnership with Rishabh Pant turned the momentum in India’s favor, with Pant playing an aggressive knock of 99, narrowly missing out on a century. The duo revived India’s innings after early blows, propelling the team to a total of 462 in their second innings. While Sarfaraz was rock-solid at one end, Pant’s flamboyant stroke play kept the scoreboard ticking at a rapid pace.

New Zealand’s Disciplined Bowling Effort

New Zealand bowlers once again showcased their discipline and consistency. The likes of Tim Southee and Matt Henry kept the Indian batsmen in check, taking crucial wickets at regular intervals. However, they could not prevent the late resurgence from India, as the lower order contributed valuable runs, adding to New Zealand’s frustration.

Despite India’s imposing second-innings total, the Black Caps remained calm, knowing that they had a relatively modest target of 107 runs to chase. In the final session of Day 4, New Zealand’s openers, Tom Latham and Devon Conway, came out to bat, but just as they were about to start the chase, bad light and rain intervened. Only four deliveries were bowled before the umpires called for early stumps. Neither Latham nor Conway managed to get off the mark, leaving the visitors at 0/0, with the chase set to resume on Day 5.
