India T20 squad for Australia series

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) named the squad for the T20I series against Australia. Suryakumar Yadav, India’s premier batter, will lead the team in the series, with Ruturaj Gaikwad as his deputy for the first three games and Shreyas Iyer for the final two.

The five-match Twenty20 International series begins just four days after Australia won their sixth World Cup by defeating India by six wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Except for Suryakumar Yadav, who will lead the T20 side for the first time, the majority of the World Cup squad has been rested. Ishan Kishan and Prasidh Krishna, who replaced Hardik Pandya in the squad, will be joined by Surya as the only three members to the World Cup squad, with the remainder of the players chosen from the team that travelled to Ireland in August.

Shreyas Iyer is also available for the series, but he will miss the first three games before returning for the final two.

“The Men’s Selection Committee announced the squad for the upcoming IDFC First Bank 5-match T20I series against Australia scheduled to start from 23rd November 2023 in Visakhapatnam,” the BCCI said in a media advisory.
