IN-W vs NZ-W Highlights: India face defeat against New Zealand in a controversial run-out World Cup clash

IN-W vs NZ-W Highlights for Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 Match 4

India faced a disappointing start to their Women’s T20 World Cup campaign after losing to New Zealand by 58 runs in the fourth match of the marquee event on Friday. Let’s look at IN-W vs NZ-W Highlights for Today’s Match.

Chasing a target of 161, India batters were seen struggling at the middle and failed to convert their starts and build partnerships.

Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur’s 15 was the highest runs for a batter in the Indian innings, as all eleven only manage to score 102 runs and lost the match by a big margin.

Earlier, New Zealand openers proved their captain’s decision of choosing to bat first right by adding 55 in the first six overs.

Things were looking extremely good for the Kiwis team before they faced two shocks in the span of four balls.

Suzie Bates (27 off 24) and Georgia Plimmer (34 off 23) played their part well as openers. Amelia Kerr, who was a part of run-out drama, took 22 balls to score 13 runs, as Indian bowlers managed to grip a bit during the middle overs.

However, skipper Sophie Devine was in no mood for a slow play and played a knock of unbeaten 57 off 36 to guide New Zealand to 160 in 20 overs.

Rosemary Mair bagged a four-fer for New Zealand with the ball. While Lea Tahuhu grabbed three and Eden Carson also took two scalps.

What was the run-out controversy during India women vs New Zealand women?

Amelia Kerr, who was not able to score against Indian spinners, faced a clear run-out after hitting the ball to long off on the final ball of the 14th over, and she started walking off from the middle.

New Zealand batter completed the single and the umpire gave the hat to bowler Deepti Sharma, but suddenly both the batters charged for the second run.

Indian skipper, who collected the ball on the long-off, was quick to judge the intentions of the batters and she threw the ball towards the wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh.

Ghosh was also quick, collecting the ball and executing the run out with Kerr way short of the crease.

Kerr, who was seen walking off, was called back by the umpires, as according to them the ball had already been dead.
