T20 WC 2024: Injury forces Imad Wasim out of Pakistan’s first World Cup match

Imad Wasim Injury Update

Imad Wasim Injury Update: Pakistan suffered a big blow ahead of the first World Cup match tomorrow, as their star all-rounder forced out from the game due to injury.

The men in green are scheduled to play their opening game in the marquee event on June 6 against co-host United States of America. And the news of Imad’s unavailability has raised many concerns over team’s balance.

Wasim, who overturned his retirement decision to take part in the T20 World Cup, has been seen as an important all-rounder in the team’s set up. Given his form and experience, Pakistan will surely miss his services on Thursday.

The all-rounder has suffered a side strain that forced him to miss the action on June 6 at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas.

“Imad is suffering from a side strain which has led to the decision of not playing him in the opening match,” Pakistan skipper Babar Azam quoted as saying.

Babar is also hopeful that Wasim will join the team in their next games, as he said, “While Imad will sit out for this game, we are hopeful he will join us for the upcoming matches.”

Pakistan has already been in trouble after not so pleasing results in the shorter format of the game in 2024.

They have only managed to win a single series out of 4, that win also came against 11th ranked Ireland by 2-1.

Babar and company entered the World Cup after facing a defeat against England by 2-0 in the last week of May.

And the sudden exclusion of their star all-rounder further puts them in trouble to field their best playing eleven against the USA.

Pakistan has last won the T20 World Cup way back in 2019. They, however, reached the finals in the last edition in 2022 under Babar Azam but failed to win.
