Champions Trophy Update: BCCI rejects PCB’s Partnership Formula

ICC meeting regarding Champions Trophy 2025: December 5 Judgement Day?

ICC’s discussions with BCCI and PCB regarding the unresolved Champions Trophy schedule issue. Pakistan’s proposal for a hybrid model, that will see India’s matches being held in Dubai, sparked hope for a solution. BCCI had another plan however, BCCI rejected Pakistan’s conditions, which included adopting the same model for ICC events held in India. So let’s take a look at ICC meeting regarding Champions Trophy 2025.

The issue reflects broader tensions between the two neighboring countries, which can affect the tournament. With the ongoing issues, both boards are still engaged in talks, hoping to find a resolution.

Meeting On December 5, With Varied Agenda

PCB initially accepted the Hybrid Format but with a newly proposed condition. “Partnership Formula” or “Fusion Formula.” This format adapts the same neutral venue schedule for Pakistan as it did for India, for key ICC events which will be held in India. As per a report from The Telegraph, the BCCI has rejected the PCB’s Proposal, stating that a hybrid model cannot be implemented for ICC events in India, Stating the absence of any ‘security threat’ in the country.

Apart from all this, ICC has organized a one-day workshop for global media partners, including Indian media house JioStar, in Dubai on Thursday, Dec 5. ICC sources emphasize that it is an annual gathering with no specific agenda regarding the February 19-March 9 tournament.

Will Jay Shah break the Deadlock?

With a delay in schedule and BCCI refusing to grant clearance for India’s participation in the 2025 Champions Trophy, citing security concerns. Meetings and negotiations between the BCCI and PCB have been stalled, with no board compromising on their stance.

Following an ICC meeting last Friday, PCB has been easy with its position but continues to demand a “fusion formula” and a larger share of ICC revenue. Negotiations are ongoing, with reports suggesting another ICC meeting may occur soon to find a resolution. With Jay Shah now serving as ICC chair, we could see a solution to ending this deadlock situation soon.
