How Washington Freedom won the MLC 2024, Washington Freedom maintained their dominance in the second edition of Major League Cricket from start to end to clinch their maiden MLC title.  

The team led by Steve Smith made a statement by winning the finals on Sunday evening at Dallas after beating San Franciso by 96 runs.

Batting first, team Washington posted 207 in 20 overs, all credits go to skipper Steve Smith, who played a knock of 88 off 52 to provide a solid foundation for a big total. While the cameos from Maxwell (40 off 22) and Mukhtar Ahmed (19* off 9) guided them to set a 208 target for the opponent.  

San Francisco in reply had no answers to Washington’s tough questions, as they bundled out for 111 and that’s how Washington Freedom won the MLC 2024.

The stars for Washington Freedom in MLC 2024  

After failing to win the first edition despite reaching the playoffs, Washington entered the competition this season with a belief to secure the title at any cost, as they won six out of seven games during the group stage of the tournament to top the points table and advance to the playoffs.  

They met San Francisco in the qualifiers and won it by seven wickets, and then benefitted from topping the points chart for and reach the finals, where both the teams again faced off and Washington again passed the test.

While it has been a combined performance that made Washington the champions, there are few players who led the team from the front and had a big impact on their team’s success this season.  

Steve Smith: The skipper of team Washington Freedom not just performed extremely well with the bat in the entire tournament and scored the second highest run-getter. But his tactics as captain were top-notch.

Travis Head: The swashbuckling Australian player and the current number 1 T20I batter in the world, has performed exactly to his caliber and scored a total of 336 runs in nine games at a strike-rate of 173.20, including five fifties, the most by any batter in the league.
