GT vs CSK highlights: Gujarat Titans start IPL 2023 campaign with 5-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings 

GT vs CSK Match Highlights:A combined team effort in all the three departments help the defending Champions Gujarat Titans start their IPL 2023 campaign with a win over the four-time champions Chennai Super Kings by 5 wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday.  

Rashid Khan was once again the star of the game with both bat and bowl, as he took 2 wickets with the ball and struck a crucial 10* off 3 in the tensed situation during the final few overs of the first TATA IPL 2023 match.  

Shubman Gill played a fantastic knock of 63 off 36 for Gujarat Titans with the bat. While Shami and Alzarri Joseph both grabbed 2-2 wickets each for GT.  

Earlier, Chennai Super Kings scored 178/7 against the Gujarat Titans thanks to Gaikwad’s blistering 92 off 50 delivering 

Gaikwad was the best batter for Chennai who was able to benefit from the surface. Apart from him, Mahendra Singh Dhoni gave it a shot and managed to score 14 runs from just 7 balls, including a 6 and a 4.  

GT vs CSK highlights  

Invited to bat, Chennai faced a dreary start as they lost their opening batter Devon Conway for just 1 in the third over of the innings.  

Devon Conway 1(6) was bowled out by Shami, giving him 100 wickets overall. Shami shared the honour of taking the most powerplay wickets in the previous IPL. Shami picked 20 wickets in the 16 games he participated in the IPL 2022, with an economy rate of 8.00 and a BBM of 3/25. 

Ruturaj Gaikwad, however, was looking in aggressive mood, and the one-down Moeen Ali provided him a good support too with his 23 off 17 before Rashid Khan removed him. 

The big-gun Stokes, who was bought for 16.25 crores by CSK in the auctions, walked in to bat at number four. The England test skipper was unable to create an impact with the bat in his first match for CSK as he was caught behind the wickets for just 7.  

Ruturaj and Ambati Rayudu (12) then added 51 for the fourth wicket. In the meantime, Ruturaj Gaikwad, recorded the first half-century of the season in just 23 deliveries.  

There was a good chance for CSK to go past 200-run mark, but the dismissals of Gaikwad (92), Jadeja (1), Dube (19), put a dent on CSK’s hopes. However, Dhoni 14* off 7 during the final few balls help the yellow team post 178 in 20 overs.  

GT vs CSK highlights: CSK to chase 179 in 20 overs  

Chasing a target of 179, Gujarat Titans off to a blistering start, as both of their openers started with aggressive the chase with aggressive approach.  

Saha was trying to hit every delivery and scored a quick-fire 25 off 16 to provide a good foundation.  

Kane Williamson, who faced the knee injury while fielding, replaced by Sai Sudharsan as an impact player for GT, and he scored 22 off 17.  

The skipper Hardik Pandya then walked in to bat, but failed to play a big knock and only managed to score 8 runs off 8.  

Gujarat Titans were all there in the game when Shubman was playing, but as soon as he departed for 61 off 36, the room for a comeback opened for CSK.  

Gill left the crease when GT were needed another 41 off the final 5 overs.  

Tewatia joined Vijay Shankar, and they managed to score 11 in the next two overs, and the equation then down to 30 in last 18 balls.  

GT recorded 7 runs off the 18th over, but lost a wicket of Vijay Shankar.  

With 23 required off the final 2 overs, the pressure was on Gujarat Titans, but 2 fours and a maximum in the penultimate over, brought the Titans back in game.  

Dhoni gave the ball to the ‘Impact Player’ Tushar Deshpande to defend 8 runs, but he was unable to as Rahul Tewatia (15*) struck a six followed by a four to hand his side a win in the first match of TATA IPL 2023.
