England’s fast bowling concerns grow as stone in doubt for India series

England squad vs India injury update for India Test Series 2025

England’s preparations for the upcoming five-match Test series against India have taken a hit, with fast bowler Olly Stone set to miss most of the series due to knee surgery. The pacer, who last played a Test match in September against Sri Lanka, will be sidelined for at least 14 weeks, making his return unlikely before the final two Tests. So let’s look at the England squad vs India injury update.

Stone had been aiming to make a strong impact for Nottinghamshire in the County Championship to boost his chances for national selection. However, his persistent injury struggles have once again forced him into a lengthy rehabilitation period as the domestic season kicks off this Friday.

The 31-year-old joins fellow England quicks Mark Wood and Brydon Carse on the injury list. Wood, who injured his knee during the Champions Trophy 2025, recently underwent  surgery and is ruled out for three months, making his participation in the India series highly doubtful.

Adding to England’s concerns is the uncertain fitness of captain Ben Stokes. Stokes was expected to participate in the County Championship, but Durham’s head coach Ryan Campbell confirmed that he will not be playing in the initial rounds of the red-ball competition.

The all-rounder had opted out of the IPL 2025 mega auction to focus on England duties, yet his recovery timeline remains unclear. Stokes has not played any competitive cricket since December and is at risk of missing the one-off Test against Zimbabwe on May 22 as well.

England’s Test summer officially begins with the Zimbabwe Test on May 22, serving as a warm-up before the much-anticipated five-match series against India.

While Olly Stone might recover in time for the final two Tests, he is more likely to return for London Spirit in The Hundred, starting August 5.

With a growing list of injuries and uncertainty over key players, England faces a significant challenge ahead of their high-stakes home series against India.
