ECB Chief Apologies For Cancelling Series Against Pakistan

The cancellation of New Zealand and England’s tours of Pakistan has attracted a lot of attention in the cricket world recently. In preparation for the T20 World Cup, the 2 sides were scheduled to play a white-ball series in Pakistan. Here is all about Why New Zealand And England’s Tours Of Pakistan Cancelled.

However, cricket boards have withdrawn from the tour for a variety of reasons. Whereas the New Zealand team received government instructions owing to security concerns, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) highlighted the physical and mental well-being of players as the reason for their decision.

Several members of the cricket community were confused by the ECB’s explanation, given many English players are presently competing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. As a result of the response from fans and cricket pundits, ECB chief Ian Watmore has made a public apology and promised a ‘proper’ tour of Pakistan after this year.

“I’m very sorry to anyone who feels hurt or let down by our decision, particularly in Pakistan. The decision the board made was an extremely difficult one and the board made it with the primary consideration being the welfare and mental health of our players and staff,” Watmore said.

Watmore also said that ECB is interested in touring Pakistan next year. “We’ve recommitted to a proper tour, a scheduled tour, of Pakistan next year and will get on with planning that. We will have longer to plan that trip,” he added.

England’s men’s & women’s teams were set to tour Pakistan in October for the competition. Whereas the men’s team was scheduled to play a handful of T20Is before the global tournament, the women’s team was scheduled to perform 2 T20Is and 3 ODIs. Despite the fact that these fixtures will not take place as planned, the ECB president has promised to visit the Asian country next year.

However, Pakistan’s communications and broadcasting minister, Fawad Chaudhry, has enthusiastically applauded the ECB’s decision. “Announcement of ECB to visit Pakistan next year is a welcome step, I would like to thank stars of the cricket world, the diplomatic community, Media And Cricket lovers around the world on their support for Pakistan Cricket, yet again Pak has emerged as a strong and resilient nation,” he tweeted.
