‘Each Country Should Have Two Teams In Order To Host More Events And Involve More Countries’– Ravi Shastri

Cricket is not a new sport that has been discussed for inclusion in the Olympics. Many in the cricket world have backed the concept of taking the game to the Olympics to help grow and get global recognition. Stay with us to know about Ravi Shastri words on a virtual news conference

Ravi Shastri argued that the nations need to have two teams to host more games

Ravi Shastri, a former Indian cricketer and current head coach of the national team, agreed that the Olympics should be held, but argued that each country should have two teams in order to host more events and include more countries.

From June 18 to June 22, Team India will compete in the World Test Championship final against New Zealand in Southampton. Following the final, India will face England in a five-match Test series.

The BCCI has decided to field a different India team for the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka, while the main Indian squad is busy with Test matches. Ravi Shastri clarified that, due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, having two Indian teams is only a temporary measure.

The head coach, on the other hand, did not rule out the prospect of two separate squads in the future. Ravi believes that the best way to grow cricket is for more games to be played, which can only happen when nations have two teams.

Ravi Shastri, words on a virtual news conference

“Well, you never know. At the moment, it’s happening because of the current situation, the restrictions on travel and things of that sort. But you never know, in the future if you want to expand the game, especially in the shorter formats, it could be the way to go.

“You know, why not? When you have that much volume of cricketers and if you want to spread the T20 game across the globe then that could be the way ahead,” On Wednesday, June 2, Ravi Shastri conducted a virtual news conference.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is reported to be considering the 2028 Olympic events in Los Angeles as a prospective venue for cricket.

Speaking about the same, Shastri said, “If you are talking about the Olympics in four or eight years’ time then you need more countries and it could be the way forward.”
