India faced England in a warm-up match before the beginning of their T20 World Cup 2021 campaign. On October 24, the group will kick off its campaign versus archrivals Pakistan. The Team India head coach, Ravi Shastri, who is on his final assignment with the side, before the high-profile clash, said that dew will play an important factor in deciding the team composition.
India’s all matches are scheduled to take place in the evenings. The dew factor plays a crucial part in such scenarios, causing spinners to struggle to hold the ball and hitters to have a good time on the field. Shastri mentioned that the lineup will consider whether to engage an additional spinner or pacer in the match based on the dew and playing parameters.
“We’ll just try to see how much dew is around and accordingly decide to bat/bowl first. Also helps us decide about playing an extra spinner or seamer,” Shastri told Deep Dasgupta during an interaction.
We’ll just see how things go and work a combination around: Shastri
Many of the Indian players who will compete in the major show have already played in the Indian Premier League (IPL). It had played a prominent part in giving the players enough practice time before the competition. Shastri addressed these points and stated that due to the IPL, many of the players do not require any homework. He said that the practice matches will benefit the group getting into a tempo and generate some momentum before the competition.
“Boys have been playing IPL for the last two months, so I don’t think they need too much preparation. It’s more about them getting together and adapting together. Get some rhythm going, some energy going. Not really (regarding any locked strategy). We’ll just see how things go and work a combination around,” Shastri added.
On Monday, October 18, India played their first warm-up match versus England. After winning the toss, India chose to bowl first. England set a target of 189, and India’s KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan gave solid beginnings that led to the team’s win.
