Daryl Mitchell Claims ODI No.1 Spot in latest ICC rankings
Daryl Mitchell Becomes First New Zealand No.1 Since 1979
Rohit Sharma’s short reign at the top of the ICC ODI batting rankings has come to an end, with New Zealand’s in-form batter Daryl Mitchell claiming the No.1 position. Mitchell’s match-winning century against the West Indies in Christchurch pushed him to 782 ranking points — just one ahead of Rohit Sharma. So let’s know about Daryl Mitchell Claims ODI No.1 Spot.
Mitchell has now become only the second New Zealand player in history to reach the No.1 position in the ODI batting charts, joining Glenn Turner, who last achieved the feat in 1979.
Rohit Sharma’s First Stint at No.1 Lasts 22 Days
Rohit had moved to the top spot last month following a successful comeback series in Australia. His rise made him the oldest player ever to become the No.1 ODI batter, but his first tenure lasted only 22 days before Mitchell overtook him with a 119-run knock from 118 balls in the opening match against the West Indies.
