For all the wrong reasons, Shahid Afridi was recently in the headlines. The former Pakistani captain gave a speech on his visit to Occupied Pakistan in Kashmir (PoK). He said some hurtful things about India and its Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. Speaking with Indian cricketers like Harbhajan Singh, Gautam Gambhir, and Yuvraj Singh, he got a lot of reaction from the media.
Now Afridi has also been shamed by former Pakistani spinner Danish Kaneria for his PoK speech. While on the topic, his words were very harsh for the ex-cricketer. He said that the speech could spread a negative cricket image across the border for Pakistan. Kaneria has spoken openly not for the first time against Afridi. During his play days Kaneria criticized and blamed Afridi for not treating him properly.
“Shahid Afridi needs to think about any issue before talking. He must break all cricket ties if he enters politics. If you speak like a politician, it’s important to stay away from cricket. Discussions like these are creating a negative image not only for India but worldwide of Pakistan’s cricket, “Kaneria told India TV.
‘Cricketing ties should resume between the two countries’: Danish Kaneria
Before Afridi’s video emerged, he was seen distributing food to Pakistan’s poor masses amid the coronavirus pandemic. Yuvraj and Harbhajan sponsored his foundation at the time by appealing to people to make some donations to the ‘Shahid Afridi Foundation.’ Kaneria pointed out that this kind of behavior is not regarded as friendship, and that Afridi would test himself out.
“He called for their support, and after you get the help, you think about your country and PM. Which kind of relationship is it? “Kaneria was questioned.
After watching the Afridi video, Gautam Gambhir and Suresh Raina shared tweets. Harbhajan had openly told the ex-Pakistan skipper that he would not maintain any relationship because he had talked bad things about India and their Prime Minister.
Kaneria seemed very optimistic about the future as he spoke about cricket matches between India and Pakistan. “There should be a resumption of cricket relations between the two countries. There are some political tensions between India and Pakistan which both governments should resolve by dialog to allow cricket to return, “said Kaneria.
