CSK’s batting collapse against KKR: A story of no intent and all trouble

CSK batting collapse against KKR for 25th match of IPL 2025

The Chennai Super Kings suffered a crushing blow in their IPL campaign as they stumbled to their lowest-ever total at Chepauk — a paltry 103/9 in 20 overs against a clinical Kolkata Knight Riders side. So Let’s take a look at CSK batting collapse against KKR for 25th Match of IPL 2025.

This was the first time CSK batted first in the season, and they never looked settled. To make matters worse, they went into the game without their in-form skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, who was ruled out due to an elbow injury. The captaincy mantle fell back on the shoulders of MS Dhoni, but his calm leadership could not inspire a crumbling batting unit.

The top order faltered early, with Rachin Ravindra and Devon Conway falling cheaply. The powerplay yielded just 23 runs for the loss of two wickets.

The middle order, including Rahul Tripathi and Vijay Shankar, attempted a brief recovery, but spin soon tightened the noose. Sunil Narine (4-0-13-3) was the architect of CSK’s downfall, deceiving the batters with flight and subtle variations.

What stood out — and disappointed — was the lack of intent. Batsmen seemed to play for survival rather than aggression. Even big hitters like Shivam Dube and MS Dhoni looked subdued. There was no visible plan to counter KKR’s spinners or change gears. CSK lost wickets at regular intervals and failed to string any meaningful partnerships.

KKR’s decision to bowl first proved spot on. Their bowlers executed their plans to perfection, applying pressure with every over. Varun Chakaravarthy and Harshit Rana were equally effective in exploiting a sluggish pitch and a confused batting approach.

With the playoffs on the line, the lack of fight and intent from CSK’s batters was shocking, particularly in front of their home crowd.

With this no intent batting play, CSK’s playoff hopes are hanging by a thread, and unless they bring back the fight and intent they’re known for, more dents may follow in what’s turning into a forgettable season.
