Coronavirus: Cricket South Africa Won’t Cut Players’ Salaries

Cricket South Africa Won’t Cut Salaries Of Players Even With The Suspension Of Games: CEO Jacques Faul

On Tuesday (31st March 2020), CEO of Cricket South Africa Jacques Faul said that for the 2020-21 seasons, there will be no cut in salaries of the players but the dangerous Coronavirus could affect vigorously in their earnings.

The impact of the COVID-19 is already seen by the sporting world. Some football clubs are forced to cut the salaries of the players. But Cricket South Africa has no that kind of immediate strategy for the contracted cricketers.

Faul quoted in the local media “ We have already counted the amount of the salaries. It is a complete system and along with the national South Africa squad, franchise cricketers also budgeted for the salaries. At this phase, we have sufficient capacity to take care of us throughout the season.”

“ But in case it continues for a long time, although we cover the current season, next we have to handle the situation and look at the economic effect it has. In this current season, no player is getting less salary, but if the situation wouldn’t back to the track, maybe the players might have received less salary.”

Furthermore, he said that the Cricket Board of South Africa has decided not to take place any cricket match in the next three to six months.

Faul added “ I can’t say for the next season, how much money will be there to pay players. We have to look at the complete impact of Coronavirus. And it has no doubt that now players will miss out on the win bonuses as well as appearance fees.”

“ In case we have postponed the series and they played the series at a later date, then they can make up the cut, otherwise not.”

The next international assignment of the national South Africa team is the tour of West Indies in the month of July.
