BCCI Announced The 32 Member Squad For Australia:
The 32-member India squad for the tour of Australia on Monday was revealed by the Sunil Joshi-led Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee. In the form of Rohit Sharma and Ishant Sharma, the list had some notable injury absentees, though Rishabh Pant was also dropped from the limited-overs teams. One name, however, was that of Suryakumar Yadav, that many fans, former cricketers and pundits were eager to see but could not find.
The Mumbai Indians batsman, at least in the shortest format after his consistency in domestic cricket and the ongoing Indian Premier League ( IPL) 2020, was sponsored by many to get a place in the Indian squad. But there were other concepts for the BCCI selection committee.
Outraged fans slammed the selectors for Surya ‘s exclusion as soon as the list came out, with even veteran Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh taking to Twitter to express his frustration. Now the selection committee has been lashed out by another major name from the Indian cricketing spectrum.
Dilip Vengsarkar, a former Indian cricketer, confessed to being gobsmacked by the omission of Suryakumar as he currently labelled him one of the most talented batsmen on the Indian circuit.
“I’m shocked at the absence of ‘Surya,’ who is currently one of the most talented batsmen in the world, from the teams chosen for the Australian tour. I can equate Surya with the best in the Indian team as far as sheer potential is concerned. He has consistently scored runs. I don’t know what else he has to do to gain a place in the Indian team,” Vengsarkar told the Times of India.
As he asked BCCI President Sourav Ganguly to investigate the right-handed batsman’s omission, Vengsarkar also went on to equate Surya ‘s talent with the best players in the Indian cricket team.
“From the age of 26 to 34, a batsman is at his best. And I feel Surya (30) is at the peak of his career. If the requirements are not form and fitness, then what is it? Can anyone describe it?” asserted the former chief selector of India. Surya should have been there to reinforce the middle order with Rohit (Sharma) out of the team due to (a hamstring) injury. The motive behind dropping Surya should be questioned by BCCI president Ganguly, “he stressed.
