West Indian great Brian Lara has praised the Rishab Pant-led side’s bowling attack ahead of the IPL Qualifier 1 between Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals on October 10, Sunday. The likes of Avesh Khan, Kagiso Rabada, and Anrich Nortje, are known for their potential and how destructive they can be.
Delhi Capitals has finished on top of the table this year and all the bowlers have done a fine job this year. They’ve made it very difficult for teams to score runs and deserved the position they’re in right now.
Brian Lara has reckoned that should bat deep and can be a tough man on their day to beat. So Lara expects the two experienced openers to start cautiously against the likes of Rabada, Avesh Khan, and Nortje.
Delhi were able to shut teams down in the last few overs: Brian Lara
“That would be a wise call because Delhi haven’t been great at the death like they were in 2020. Rabada was outstanding last year and Delhi were able to shut teams down in the last few overs. But, that hasn’t been the case this year! You could easily be prepared for that and make sure you don’t lose the game in the powerplay”, Lara said.
“I feel that Avesh, Nortje, and Rabada are doing most of the damage in the powerplay and Chennai could be slightly careful during that phase. They will target the two openers with short deliveries but if Faf and Gaikwad can see off the first few overs, the two could do some serious damage,” added Lara.
Later he added that CSK will have a slight advantage over the Delhi Capitals as they’ve all the experience playing in qualifiers. Delhi Capitals have beaten CSK twice this year in league matches but the qualifier record has been in Chennai’s as they’ve won 2 out of 2 matches against Delhi Capitals.
Experience is Chennai’s major asset: Lara
This is going to be a tough battle and it’s very difficult to predict what’s going to happen. Chennai has stumbled in their last 3 matches, while Delhi too lost their last match. DC’s every delivery is going to ask CSK a lot of questions and they can destroy them. Delhi has the finest bowling strength but Chennai bat long. It’s tough to decide who is going to win this one. Just in terms of talent, DC has some amazing young players but CSK has the experience.
“Experience is Chennai’s major asset. The two openers (Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis) are doing the business but they also have the experience of playing these important playoff games and that could come in handy. MS Dhoni and his brains and his thinking are going to come good,” added Lara.
MS Dhoni-led side would like to win tonight’s match and take a route directly into the finals.
