BCCI Meeting Update: Gambhir and Agarkar to Address Key Issues with BCCI
BCCI Meeting Update: India’s cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir and BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar both are set to meet BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia in Guwahati on Saturday to discuss the delayed central contracts for players and the meeting was planned just after the return of head coach Gautam Gambhir, who is on a family vacation.
Before this week, the Board of Control for Cricket in India revealed central contracts for women cricketers, but the men’s contracts for the 2024-25 season are still pending, even after the completion of half of the cycle. However, during the Indian Premier League opening ceremony at Eden Gardens on March 22, chief selector Ajit Agarkar and Devajit Saikia decided to have a brief meeting in Guwahati, where Agarkar will be watching an IPL match.

Will Rohit and Kohli Retain Their Top-Tier Contracts?
The main agenda of the meeting will be to determine whether seasoned players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will remain in the top bracket of the contract list. Both veterans are retired from T20 International. However, both legends are likely to be in the top-tier, due to their valuable contributions in various formats of the game. Meanwhile, a similar decision was made in the past with M.S. Dhoni, who remained in the top-tier bracket despite playing limited matches.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India is anticipated to revise the contract amounts, while last year, players in Grade A+ received ₹7 crore each, while those in Grade A, B, and C were paid ₹5 crore, ₹3 crore, and ₹1 crore, respectively. The contracts covered the period from October 2023 to September 2024.Besides contracts, the selection of India and India A squads for the England tour after the IPL might also be discussed.
Alongside these central contract disputes, they will also discuss an important issue, which is the return of Shreyas Iyer to the contract list. Both Iyer and Ishan Kishan were excluded from the BCCI central contracts due to nonparticipation in a few international and domestic cricket. However, Shreyas Iyer played a key role in India’s recent Champions Trophy 2025 win, so he is set to be included again.
