BCCI Confirms Glazer Family’s Participation To Own New Team

The Glazer family, who controls Manchester United, is part of the bidding group, which is attempting to secure sponsorship of one franchise in the IPL 2022. The participation of Manchester United’s owners in the UAE for the momentous day has been confirmed by sources close to the situation. “Yes, they are here. We will know by afternoon on which two cities have teams and who are the owners,” BCCI source said.

The fact that the owners of Manchester United are interested in being a part of the IPL 2022 could be one of the reasons why the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on September 21 that the closing date for owning the Invitation to Tender (ITT) for the right to own and perform one of two newly proposed IPL groups has been extended from October 5 to October 10.

BCCI has now decided to extend the date for purchasing the ITT document: BCCI Secretary Jay Shah

Earlier this week, sources close to the situation acknowledged Manchester United’s ownership’s interest.

Well yes, it is true that they have shown interest and that may be one of the reasons why the dateline was extended by the BCCI. IPL is not just restricted to India, it is a global entity now,” the source pointed out.

On August 31, 2021, the IPL’s Governing Council published an “Invitation to Tender” (“ITT”) document that was accessible upon payment of non-refundable tender expenses.

Pursuant to a request from interested parties, the BCCI has now decided to extend the date for purchasing the ITT document till October 10, 2021,” BCCI Secretary Jay Shah said in a statement.

The BCCI has selected six towns as possible bases for the new teams, with Ahmedabad and Lucknow currently leading the pack.
