BCB refutes Jahanara Alam allegations- BCB Issues Strong Statement
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has categorically denied the allegations of physical abuse made by senior pacer Jahanara Alam against national women’s team captain Nigar Sultana Joty. The controversy erupted after Alam claimed in an interview with the Bangladeshi newspaper Kaler Kantho that Sultana had physically assaulted some of her teammates. So let’s know about BCB refutes Jahanara Alam allegations.
BCB Dismisses Allegations as “Baseless and Fabricated”
In an official statement, the BCB strongly refuted Alam’s claims, labeling them as “baseless, fabricated, and devoid of any truth.” The board expressed disappointment over the timing of the accusations, especially when Bangladesh’s women’s cricket team has been showing steady progress and unity on the global stage.
“The Board believes that the timing and nature of these comments are deliberate, ill-intentioned, and seemingly aimed at undermining the spirit and confidence of a team that continues to represent the country with pride,” the BCB said in a statement quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
BCB Stands Firmly Behind Team and Captain
The board emphasized its complete trust and confidence in Nigar Sultana and the entire women’s team management.
“It is deeply disappointing that an individual who currently has no involvement or relevance in Bangladesh cricket has chosen to make such misleading statements. The Board has found no evidence to support any of the claims made and stands firmly behind the team and its personnel,” the statement further added.
Nigar Sultana’s Performance and Leadership
Despite the controversy, Nigar Sultana’s leadership has been widely praised. She guided Bangladesh during the 2025 Women’s World Cup, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, where the team finished seventh but showcased resilience, including a notable win against Pakistan. Sultana scored 150 runs in the tournament and has accumulated 1,474 ODI runs in her career so far.
